Page Image Page Content Mutah University Princess Muna College Of Nursing Nursing Higher Diploma/Midwifery Description of the program This program aims to provide the civilian and military students with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver the highest standards of midwifery care. The study plan at Princess Muna college of Nursing enables the student to obtain Nursing Higher Diploma/Midwifery by attending (30) credit hours divided by one academic years/3 semesters, after successfully pass he attended to comprehensive exam. Mission of the program The overall purpose of this program is to qualify midwifery students theoretically and practically to provide high quality midwifery care in various health centers in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Philosophy of the program The philosophy of Princess Muna College of Nursing is consistent with that of the Mutah University as it prepares midwifery students to gain a professional knowledge and the development of clinical competence to deliver high quality care to the women and her infant. Rationale of the programme Midwifery shortage in Jordan is a major obstacle in delivering comprehensive care to women. Midwives composed only 4.3% of health care providers in Jordan, about 4984 midwives serves in both public and private health sectors (MOH, 2023), Midwifery ratio in Jordan still low when compared with other countries around the world. Recently, the Jordanian Nursing Council (JNC) calls to reform midwifery education. These calls focus on shifting midwifery education from college based to university based. Objectives of the programme The overall outcome of this program is to equip midwives with knowledge and practical competence to provide full scope, evidence-based, appropriate midwifery care for women and childbearing families. Midwifery students of this program will: 1. Acquire a sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills in all areas of midwifery practice to work as safe and competent midwives. 2. Demonstrate the role of midwife in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating midwifery care in the care for women from preconception period, pregnancy, labor and to six weeks postpartum including care of the infant, during menopause and Care for women who experience physical and sexual violence and abuse. 3. Have the ability to manage and work effectively in emergency situations. 4. Identify the responsibilities of health care professionals in the implementation of safe practice. 5. Articulate sound clinical judgment and effective clinical skills. 6. Demonstrate understanding of ethical and legal issues involved in midwifery practice. 7. Demonstrate understanding of research principles and conducting research activities to advancement of midwifery profession. 8. Develop health education plan for clients and their families according to their needs. 9. Demonstrate Knowledge and skills regarding the use of family planning methods. 10. Demonstrate the ability to provide adolescent reproductive health services. 11. Is able to apply teaching, leadership and management related knowledge into one’s professional activity and possesses readiness to life-long self-directed learning and professional improvement. Admission requirements: According to the instructions of Mutah University related to the Nursing Higher Diploma: 1. To have a bachelor's degree in nursing or its equivalent from universities and colleges recognized by the university. Duration of the program: one academic year. Number of credit hours: thirty credit hours divided into theoretical and practical hours. One theoretical hour equal to 16 classroom hours, and one practical hour equal to 5 hours of practical application. Teaching language: English. Place of study: Theoretical education will be at Princess Muna College of Nursing, and Practical Training will be at Obstetric and Gynecological department / Royal Medical Services hospitals.
